In case you’ve never visited…

Upcycle Arts is Charlotte’s first and only creative reuse center, which is like a thrift store version of Joann’s or Michael’s. All of the materials are donated and include a wide range of craft items, including paints, fabric, yarn, scrapbooking paper, and much much more.
I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of the team since June 2024!

Zine/Junk Journaling 101

In the community, I may be known as a “zine queen”, but I prefer to stick with the more general “paper princess” title when I’m at Upcycle.

The first hurdle is making sure people know it’s pronounced like “zeen” rather than “zine”; the second is reassuring them that there’s no right or wrong way to approach it, no one topic to stick with, and does not have to be an amazing art production.

As for junk journaling, I like to share this pro-tip: download the FreePrints app to physically print pictures, and add your screenshots to a Google Doc to print off (at the library if you don’t have a printer). Next, grab some stamps, stencils, and the cutest sheets of scrapbook paper.

Voila! You’re ready to junk journal!

Here, creativity meets opportunity.
